01 / Try the length on

Cut a piece of non-stretch string to the listed chain length.
Drape it around your neck and bring the ends together in front of a mirror.
Try it with your usual neckline, leaving comfortable space to move. A pendant may sit below the point where the chain ends meet.

02 / Compare a favorite necklace

Unfasten it, lay it straight without stretching, and measure from end to end, including the clasp. Check whether the product’s stated length includes any extender.

A 12-inch chain is very short and will not fit every neck. Measure before choosing a close-fitting length. Never assume a necklace is adjustable unless its details say so.

Planning a layered look?

Try a little space between chains—around 2 inches is a useful starting point. Test with string first, especially when adding pendants, which can change the overall drop.
