01 / Try the length on

  1. Cut a piece of non-stretch string to the listed chain length.
  2. Drape it around your neck and bring the ends together in front of a mirror.
  3. Try it with your usual neckline, leaving comfortable space to move. A pendant may sit below the point where the chain ends meet.

02 / Compare a favorite necklace

Unfasten it, lay it straight without stretching, and measure from end to end, including the clasp. Check whether the product’s stated length includes any extender.

A 12-inch chain is very short and will not fit every neck. Measure before choosing a close-fitting length. Never assume a necklace is adjustable unless its details say so.

    I've wanted a sideways cross for a while but kept finding chains I didn't like. This one finally suited me.     I like the paperclip chain, but the sideways cross keeps shifting on me. I spend more time adjusting it than I'd like. It looks nice; the way it wears on my neck just isn't what I wanted.
